We draw and paint from scratch, but also digital photographs provide an ideal under painting for dry art. With this method our process is far removed from the common held perceptions of automated editing with the accompanying questionable and unpredictable results .
When using a photographic under painting it is important that the focus of the photograph is sharp and the exposure correct, avoiding saturation through over exposure or dark areas through under exposure. As with all artwork the composition is crucial.
Initially the image is sized and cropped as required, and any necessary adjustments to the contrast, brightness and colour are made.
Hereafter our editing sequence is applied manually throughout. Multiple layers are created and selectively blended together as one, with specific areas within the picture receiving different treatment to create the desired effects. Most of this editing is completed by means of electronic pen and tablet, a practised freehand technique that enhances the artistic effect with brush strokes and produces originality within the image.
Slowly the photograph is transformed and ‘painted’ into a stunning piece of fine art, with the final touches being applied before being presented as a Sharp Image.
